More on the Sony NEX 5N: Creative Styles

The NEX 5N has Creative Styles, which are very similar to the Picture Profiles on the Canon DSLRs. Different Creative Styles have different dynamic ranges. This is a totally unscientific test and I was originally just shooting this for myself and decided to share it with the world.

I shot this in 60p with the intention of conforming it to 24p later, but forgot. Maybe I’ll fix this in the future. Here are some other details not shared in the video itself: Shot with Nikon 55mm 2.8f. 1/125s. 1600 ISO.

To my eye, it looks like the Portrait mode with all of the settings turned down has the highest dynamic range. I think I will pretty much be leaving the camera in this mode to capture the most detail I can out of this little camera.

The bummer thing is the camera cannot have custom made Creative Styles loaded into it. It would be great to see something like this added so styles with even higher range can be made (like the Technicolor CineStyle for the Canon DSLRs).
